What You Need to Know About .XXX

The Internet Safety Project Newswire's picture
Starting Wednesday, the domain name .xxx will go on sale, but what does this mean for you, the concerned consumer? *First of all, .xxx is a domain name specifically designed for pornography companies. In an effort to improve safety and content filtering, as approved by the ICMregistry, the group that regulates and manages official domain and website names. *For the next 50 days, mainstream companies will have the opportunity to purchase .xxx domain names. This is done not to create content for those domain names, but to keep inappropriate content from being associated with major companies. For example, Coca-Cola can purchase coca-cola.xxx in order to protect their franchise. *After the 50 day period, pornography sites will have the full ability to purchase and use .xxx domain names. Make sure to add .xxx domain names to your content filter in order to prevent accidental stumbling across such sites. *Pornography websites, however, are not required to purchase or be labeled under the .xxx domain name. Therefore, there are still thousands of sites that are dangerous and available under more common domain names such as .net or .com. While there has been rousing support of this move by the ICMregistry, there has been past controversy. Some believe that this will better protect users, while others believe that this move will normalize pornography as a socially acceptable practice. What are your views on the issue? Is .xxx for better, or worse?

Adding the .xxx domain name is a great and easy way to filter out pornographic websites from your home. It organizes the Internet in a way that we can take out filthy images that we don't want in our personal lives. The problem still exists in that these websites do not have to change domain names, they can still operate under the .com domain name. Porn websites hook their users by getting them to a porn website and then the users take the bait. Once on a website, a user finds it difficult to leave (see below url on techniques that these websites use to keep users returning for more). Our society may want an easy way to filter out these websites, the pornographic industry wants to avoid an easy way to be filtered from a computer. So, until internet laws require pornographic websites to use .xxx, the domain name won't do us any good since these websites can already sneak into our homes. 4 Marketing Tactics: http://www.thebadblogger.com/blog-marketing-secrets/marketing-tactics-porn-industry-improve-blogging-effort
