What is NetSafeKids?

NetSafeKids is a website based on the 2002 National Research Council report entitled “Youth, Pornography, and the Internet.” The purpose of the website is to educate parents about the dangers and threats on the Internet, how inappropriate information can reach children, and ways to protect kids. The main categories on the website are Pornography and Predators: Basic Facts/ Legal Issues; How Pornography and Predators Reach Kids; How Can I Protect My Child?; and Resources/Glossary. Within these main categories are further subcategories that focus on a specific issue, such as Instant Messaging and Chat Rooms under How Pornography and Predators Reach Kids. Furthermore, NetSafeKids offers links to other helpful sites and an option to contact directly. 1
