Piggybacking

What is piggybacking?

Piggybacking occurs when someone uses your wireless Internet without your knowledge. When users log on to your Internet connection, they can do more than just slow down your connection speed by taking up bandwidth; they can also install malware or steal personal information from you.

How can I protect myself?

  • Change the name of your network from the one given by the router company. It will make your connection more anonymous.
  • Make sure your network is encrypted with a long password.
  • Read these detailed instructions from our Wifi article.
