Woot!

What is Woot!?

Woot! is an online distribution center that features one item per day, usually electronic or computer related. Sub-categories of Woot! include kids.woot!, wine.woot!, shirt.woot! and sellout.woot!. Each category features one discounted item a day. The featured item of the day goes on sale at 12 am Central time and is only available until 11:59 pm of the same day. The product sells until the inventory is gone, and then it is no longer available. There are no rain checks or another way to get the deal. Woot! also provides an intentionally humorous daily podcast describing the product of the day. With its humorous product descriptions and podcasts, Woot! constantly reminds customers that it simply exists to provide great deals and is not a traditional customer-merchant relationship. On June 30, 2010, Woot! announced that it was being taken over by Amazon.com.

Occassionally, rather than having a daily deal, Woot! has a Woot Off!, where as soon as an item is sold out, it is replaced by a new one. These usually last a single day.

Concerns for Parents

  • Children buying merchandise they cannot afford.

How Can I Keep My Child Safe?

  • Be careful with how you distribute sensitive information, such as credit card numbers, online.
  • Comments and message boards at WOOT are user generated comments. While offensive items will eventually be removed, it will not happen immediately.
